The Prescription for the Perfect Fit
For Band Size
Put on your best-fitting (non-enhancing, non-minimizing) bra—this means no push-up, padded or sports bras. With tape measure in hand, take a deep breath, and let it all out (you want the smallest possible measurement). Now, keeping the measuring tape parallel to the floor, measure the band directly under your bust and round to the nearest whole number…
- If the measurement is even, add 4”
- If the measurement is odd, add 5”
Your Cup Size
Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor and your posture straight as can be, measure the fullest part of your bust (most likely this will be around your back and across the nipple line) and round to the nearest whole number.
Step 3 Calculating Bra Size*
Now, subtract your band measurement (Step 1) from your bust measurement (Step 2). The difference between the two measurements will determine your cup size. (Generally, each inch represents a cup size.) Your calculation from Step 1 represents your band size.
- 1/2” = AA
- 1” = A
- 2” = B
- 3” = C
- 4” = D
- 5” = DD or E
- 6” = DDD or F
Step 2: 40” bust
Step 3: 40” - 38” = 2”
2” = Size B, so bra size = 38B
as the cups sizes go above a D.
